Now, let’s continue our journey into the #futureoflaw…
As with all experience in life, reflection is required.
After reflection comes expression; of what it is you discovered, a conversation, admonition or discourse to expand and ultimately share this with others.
In doing this, you ultimately achieve new heights of understanding with others (and over time, wisdom) for yourself.
The hope is with a great story, you are able to influence others and their perception about the path they may travel.
In turn, those people spurred on by your story will take the baton and run the marathon.
So, if you are in a position of leadership in your Legal Practice, this message is for you:
Leaders, Tell the right story.
Think about how you’ve framed your experience.
Think about your experience of money, risk and trying new things.
Of failures, success, problems, solutions and value in your journey through Law.
Take care that your version of the story isn’t a disservice to those who would place their energy and time into your Practice.
The story you tell is not only for your team and the fresh entrants, telling the right story allows your colleagues, your supports and your clients bring their whole selves to you, to open up and be vulnerable because you chose the same.
It is only a wealth of experience when others can partake of its fruit.
With the lack of reflection, your experiences will be nothing more than carbon in the ground - something to fertilize the soil until someone else stumbles along the path. This example is intrinsic to the very way we exist on this physical plane: we are born and we die; we return to dust.
But if you reflect and then tell your story, if you are conscious of the story you tell, every experience will be an opportunity to inspire, to uplift and to encourage.
Telling the right story will be the key to raising the standard of culture in the firm, to smooth exits and succession, to growth and thriving.
You might just tell the right story of where the law is going; what part you, your constituents and successors could play.
What you seek is just behind the door, the key to open it is in telling the right story.
As always, the future of law is in our hands 🔥
Q.
Note: I want to ask you whether there would be value in having a series of notes in a published form (digital/physical), ranging from technical to reflective, practical, poetry to philosophy on the themes I share here at #FutureofLaw Lab.
If you know someone who would benefit from it or would like it yourself, hit the love heart, reply by email or leave a comment.
