Welcome to the New School š„
Hi Everyone!
Thanks for joining me - in a sense I am humbled to be able to put a little note (of information and inspiration) in your inbox on a regular basis. The Lab brings together a very diverse group of people anchored in a consistent theme, which is the #futureoflaw
(side note - search and follow that hashtag on LinkedIn š)
The law affects everyone. We all interact with it and society functions (to a degree) because of it.
I made it my mission (through FutureLab.Legal) to help those who work in the Legal trenches to build a better, future-facing version of their Practice. But itās also my aim to support Graduates and Universities, Courts and Regulators, and the wonderful world of Legaltech. Itās by bridging these pillars of the Legal Industry together in a constructive environment that we can find solutions to the challenges.
So here we will have people who work across all aspects of the Legal Industry, but also people who are interested in a good read, work around the Legal Industry and are generally curious about how the law intersects.
(btw - being curious is the antidote to solving many challenges)
What is the #FutureofLaw Lab?
The Lab is actually much more than a reading opportunity. You do get insight through original and creative work that helps to expand your mind on the Law and what its future might look like for you.
But for those who could benefit from leveraging the information, the Lab is an incredible resource for you and your team:
It provides pathways to transformation through unique insights and opportunities.
Stimulating valuable conversation within your business.
Bringing tangible exercises and serving as a supplementary development resource.
FutureLab.Legal focuses on Learning and Solutions. It was always my intention to have what we learn become accessible in a scalable way. Because of the nature of the challenges and issues that we approach (change and transformation into the Future of Law), these questions are mostly tackled with industry leaders.
Learnings from The Lab is part of the paid subscriber tier, giving you written and video summaries of current projects being addressed at FutureLab.Legal.
For those looking for even more, the Founder Membership opens the conversation up to exclusive live monthly sessions. We explore the content going through the Lab, discuss and breakdown other recent findings in the Industry and run workshops together.
If you need a circle of like-minded people tackling change in the Legal Industry, are curious to be part of the conversation and enjoy leveraging our unique perspective,
Release Schedule
As much as I am inspired by Sethās Blog regularity (he posts a blog every day!),
Iāve decided that once a week will be a good start. As the community grows I want to add a paid subscription for those who want more content and more opportunities to interact with me, each other and the community.
EDIT: The paid subscription has now been launched!
Letās Grow š
The value of the Lab is tied directly to how many people find a home and haven in its community. The discussions I have had globally with Partners at Firms, Heads of Innovation at International firms, Legal-tech founders and Trailblazers behind closed doors are exactly that, behind closed doors.
Thereās an unhealthy taboo around sharing the conversations, concerns and challenges that lawyers have about āthe way things areā.
My work is directly involved with blowing this out the water š£ and showing that there is abundance to be had in the future of law.
But thereās good reason why these conversations havenāt come into the open, there needs to be practical ways to transform, and people and businesses to support it!
So the least we can do is have constructive dialogue, focused on solutions to challenges and have them out in the open together.
You might be thinking: āIām not in the trenches, I donāt work in the legal industry, maybe the Lab isnāt for meā
To those who are not directly involved in the Legal Industry, you are a key part of the conversation!
To you I ask: What feeds the Legal Services machine? Clients!
Clients should be front of mind when considering change and disruption. The most successful firms now and into the future will build their services around the client and produce superior client experiences. Importantly, itās a delicate combination of:
What clients want,
What lawyers understand about what clients want; and
What people who are the intersection (like me) can sprinkle in between.
So, think about the impact of this work and please share it with a handful of friends and colleagues.
Final Thoughts
Iām looking forward to sharing my journey in this way, expanding it through a valuable paid subscription. The free stuff will always be free, But the subscription brings massive value and insight. So donāt be shy about adding your comments, sharing and join me in the Lab. Letās get going!
And as always, the future of law is in our hands š„
